Technique Sampler Workshop Series with Martha Freeman

Every 1st Thursday from 10am-Noon



Just set aside the first Thursday morning from 10am-Noon every month to come and learn, or perfect, a quilting technique. These short, inexpensive classes are designed with beginners in mind, but there’s always something to learn, a tip to pick up, for you more experienced quilter, too.

10/5/17 – Straight Line Quilting: Want to learn to complete your own quilts?  It’s not hard but there are things to learn about it. In this class, we’ll layer your quilt (get it ready to be quilted, a big step) and learn straight stitch machine quilting. Supplies for Class:


  • Completed quilt top, lap size or smaller
  • Backing fabric at least 4 inches bigger in both directions
  • Batting at least the size of the backing
  • 505 Basting spray
  • Sewing machine in good working order
  • Walking foot to your machine
  • Thread, invisible thread highly recommended.

11/2/17 – Free Motion Quilting: Have you wanted to learn the basics of free motion quilting?Then join Martha for this class to get your creative juices flowing. She will give you tips and tricks of how to make your projects complete with this fun and exciting process.


  • Sewing machine including your darning foot. If you don’t know how to drop your feed dogs, bring your instruction manual.
  • Several quilt “sandwiches” – layered sections of top, batting and backing. Try to use plain or solid fabrics. Fat quarter size is nice to practice with.
  • Thread color that contrasts well with the fabric so you can see your stitching
  • Machine Needles – Microtex Sharp or Denim/Jeans needles recommended
  • Marking pencil
